I am not emergent, but that straw man is incredibly simplistic. As an opening salvo, what scripture would be included in “all scripture”. Lets not forget that even Martin Luther, that great protestant reformer, did not believe the book of James should be included in the Bible. What about when two teachers, both loving God, both using the same Bible, are teaching different, contradictory things? How many people have used the “rebuking” and “correcting” stated here to break the second half of the greatest commandment (love your neighbor as yourself)?

Hope you haven’t forgotten that Martin Luther changed his tune quite considerably regarding the book of James. I know some of my Lutheran friends have been amazed to learn that fact from his writings.
