New York City is baking under a brutal heat wave, and Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s answer was not more power, it was less use of the power you already pay for.
The self-described socialist mayor took to X and asked New Yorkers to set their thermostats to 78 degrees, shut off lights and electronics, and unplug what they can, so the grid does not buckle under demand.
To be fair, it is a request, not a rule. Nobody gets arrested for running their AC at 68. But listen to how the mayor framed it. City buildings are already locked to 78 degrees. Private partners are being asked to fall in line. Nonessential equipment is being powered down by City Hall itself.
That is the pattern. When socialism does not have the votes or the legal authority to force compliance, it leans on moral pressure instead. New Yorkers are being told that keeping their own homes livable in triple digit heat is somehow selfish, unless they voluntarily suffer a little for the common good.
Conservatives from Ted Cruz to Nikki Haley to Vivek Ramaswamy piled on within hours, and even a City Council Republican, Vickie Paladino, warned this is exactly how it starts. First the suggestion, then the shaming, then the higher prices, then the regulation. Europe already lived this story.
The Founders built a government meant to secure liberty, not manage a thermostat. The Federalist Papers warned again and again about power that grows through small, reasonable sounding steps. A polite request today has a way of becoming policy tomorrow, especially from a mayor who just days earlier called socialism the future of his party.

You probably won’t see this on your news channels but Israel recently found an underground Hezbollox airbase/ drone building factory/ launch site, built under a village in southern Lebanon.
After capturing the tunnel, soldiers found around 50 UAVs with warheads of around 30 kilograms (66 pounds) of explosives each.
All ready to be fired into Israel, just a few kilometres from the border.
The tunnels go under the village of Madjal Zoun.
They run under houses and a mosque.
The subterranean facility, guarded by massive steel blast doors, was built in the past decade with direct Iranian assistance, including planning and funding, according to Israeli military sources.
Inside the tunnel, which was wide enough for a standard vehicle to drive through, Hezbollox had assembled Iranian-made drones using parts smuggled into Lebanon, presumably under the noses of the UNFIL personnel.
The drones can typically fly 200 to 500 kilometers (125 to 310 miles), enough to reach all of Israel, according to IDF officials. Military analyst Fabian Hinz identified the UAVs as an Iranian drone design, known as the Qasef in the service of the Iran-backed Houthis in Yemen.
In addition to the UAVs, the troops found around eight tons of explosive material in the underground site’s rooms
Make no mistake, Iran stands behind Hezbollox in Lebanon.
They have no interest in peace.
Israel must be allowed to defend itself and our northern border from these threats.
No other country would tolerate this.
Iran is demanding Israel withdraw from southern Lebanon but make no commitment to stop using their proxies to attack us.
They criticise Israeli aggression and threaten to walk away from the deal with the US. This is a genius move, designed to build a wedge between Israel the US and to further trash Israel’s reputation around the world.
In reality they will use any excuse they can to sink the deal and make it look as though it’s all Israel’s fault.
We cannot be held to ransom for a deal we had no part in.
Lebanon needs to be freed from Hezbollox and Iran’s evil intentions.
Israel and Lebanon must find a way to live in peace together without them.
We need to make sure there is an end-game strategy and our soldiers are not left vulnerable to attacks they cannot defend against because of an externally imposed “ceasefire” that is nothing of the sort.
We need a real and lasting diplomatic solution between the Lebanese government and Israel.
We need our leaders to have a vision for a better, more peaceful future, not more, never-ending violence and war.
Those are diplomatic talks the world should be backing. These could really make a difference.
These are talks the Israeli government ought to commit to but probably won’t because perpetual war has become an end in itself and as long as it continues certain political groups can keep their supporters happy. It’s not an acceptable state of affairs but it is the reality we are living now.
But sure, go ahead and hate on Israel.
We know much of the world will anyway.
But look, really look at those UAVs and explosives and tell me – what would you do if these were on your border pointed at your home?

It countenances no separation between church and state, that is, it cannot render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s. The scope of its ambition is khilafil, that is, the establishment of a Caliphate requiring that a state—ultimately a universal state—be ruled by Islamic law. As Muslim scholar Jaafar Sheikh Idris explains, “Secularism cannot be a solution for countries with a Muslim majority or even a sizeable minority, for it requires people to replace their God-given beliefs with an entirely different set of man-made beliefs. Separation of religion and state is not an option for Muslims because it requires us to abandon Allah’s decree for that of man.”
The “religion” itself takes precedence he transcendent values it should strive to attain: the flourishing of the individual soul, the love of God’s Creation, the grace and miracle of life, the conversation with the Divine, freedom of conscience and the inviolability of personal choice in determining one’s redemption. Instead, it elevates conformity to a set of stringent rules, down to the smallest detail, as a prerequisite to salvation, whose effect is primarily to perpetuate the faith itself at the expense of the individual votary. Admittedly, this is a literalist practice common to most restrictive and comparatively minor orthodoxies, but regarding the massive following enjoyed by Islam and its susceptibility to violence and the subjugation of other faiths and peoples to its hegemony, we are remarking a radically greater economy of scale and the havoc it can wreak.
The propensity to violence is not an aberration but an intrinsic element of the Islamic corpus. As Lee Cary has written, Islamic terrorists are “legacy, Koranic literalists” who use terror “to enforce a dogma that defines behavioral practices that comply with the Koran and [defines] the regulations of daily life.” The much-bruited notion that there is such a thing as “Islamism,” a form of extremism that has nothing to do with Islam proper, or is a perversion thereof, is a pure canard, another in a series of timorous progressivist memes bleaching the blood out of the Islamic ideological jalabiyya. Islam, not “Islamism,” promises paradise for martyrs and jihadis killed in battle (Koran 3: 157), thus palliating and even inciting feral attitudes and fanatical actions—a patently non-spiritual way of earning beatitude.
As Howard Kainz points out in an illuminating essay, “Islam and the Decalogue,” Islam reverses the Golden Rule, which is central to Judaism,
, Hinduism, Buddhism and Confucianism (Koran 48:29, 2:191, 3:28, etc.). For this reason, Kainz concludes, “Islam may best be understood,” not as a religion, but “as a world-wide cult.”
The standard rebuttal that all faiths have at one time or another shown themselves prone to violence and repression misses the essential point. All the major religions have reformed themselves, reducing or eliminating the all-too-human tendency to sanctimonious oppression—and none of these faiths, let us remember, endorsed oppression as a universal creedal or Divine imperative. Such is not the case with Islam, a communion that since its inception in the 7th century has seldom strayed from its sanguinary path of carnage and subdual. Its incendiary prescriptions and commands, as many scholars have noted, are open-ended and contain no “sunset clause.” They are perpetual and mandatory, feeding what essayist Bill Kassel calls “religious-themed barbarism”!

For years, we have been told that Christian values are the problem. They are too restrictive, too old fashioned, too judgmental, too limiting. The message has been drilled into the culture over and over again, freedom means removing every moral boundary, every inherited standard, and every inconvenient truth.
But the cartoon gets to the heart of the issue.
“I don’t want Christian values limiting my freedom in life.”
Then comes the answer.
“Ok, we got rid of them.”
And suddenly the path to “life” is broken, crumbling, and dangerous.
That is the part so many people miss. Christian values were never meant to be a prison. They were guardrails. They were the foundation that helped build strong families, honest communities, personal responsibility, respect for life, respect for marriage, respect for children, and respect for something bigger than the self.
Take those away, and you do not get some enlightened utopia.
You get confusion.
You get broken homes.
You get people chasing freedom while becoming slaves to impulse, ideology, government dependency, and cultural insanity.
The left has spent decades mocking the very values that held society together, then acts shocked when the results show up in the streets, schools, courts, and homes.
They wanted a culture without judgment, then wondered why standards disappeared.
They wanted freedom without responsibility, then wondered why chaos followed.
They wanted life without the values that protect life, then wondered why everything started falling apart.
That does not mean every Christian is perfect. It does not mean every church has always gotten everything right. But it does mean the basic moral framework that shaped this country mattered far more than our elites ever wanted to admit.
Maybe the “limits” were not the problem.
Maybe they were the only thing keeping the road from collapsing.

JD VANCE: I’m seeing a lot of fake information about a potential deal to reopen the Strait and end Iran’s nuclear weapons program. First, the Iranians are not receiving any cash, and no funds are being released for simply signing a deal or attending a meeting. The deal is structured to ensure that the US and its allies concerns are prioritized, and that if the Islamic Republic of Iran meets its obligations, then economic benefits will flow to them and to the entire region. This deal has the potential to remake the region and lead to lasting peace.

First, people who (rightly) said Donald Trump was a historic president a month ago now criticizing a deal based on unconfirmed media reports.
