“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.” ~ Marcus Tullius Cicero (3 January 106 B.C. – 7 December 43 B.C.)

The reason the NOAA uses the ground monitoring system rather than the satellite system is because each ground surface reading requires “manual” adjustments to correct for surrounding factors. NASA’s satellite system for monitoring global temperatures is much more accurate and requires no manual adjustments for its readings. The reason the NOAA stopped using the satellite system is its readings didn’t match what the NOAA wanted and they had no credible reason to alter the readings. So they quit using the satellite system and started using the less accurate ground monitoring stations. The reason is simple, the “manual adjustment” phase gave them the reason they needed to adjust the data to show the warming trend they wanted. Many, if not most, of these ground surface monitors are like this.
